Recap of the Previously Held Conferences



FIRST NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SCIENCES ORGANIZED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SCIENCES, FACULTY OF PUBLIC HEALTH, COLLEGE OF MEDICINE, UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN, IBADAN, NIGERIA.

The first national conference on Environmental Health Sciences held from 24-27 November, 2013, took place at the Centre for Sustainable Development (CESDEV), University of Ibadan. The theme of the conference was 

Environmental Health: Protecting the Ecosystems beyond the Millennium Development Goals”.

The conference was attended by scientists and researchers from within and outside Nigeria, environmental health practitioners, policy makers, students, civil society organisations, environmental health activists and a host of other stakeholders in sustainable environmental health development. 

The conference which had the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, as special guest of honour, featured presentations and discussion of several papers which cut across emerging and re-emerging issues relating to environmental health and safety. At the end of the conference, participants developed and endorsed the communiqué.

There were recommendations and advocacies for the development of a feasible sustainable environmental health and safety plan, emergency preparedness, global environmental health and adoption of multidisciplinary approach in resolving environmental health challenges.

3rd NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SCIENCES



The 3rd Annual Conference on Environmental Health Sciences is being organized to bring together Scientists, researchers, students, health service managers, health professionals, individual from non-governmental and community based health organisations, and Policy makers to discuss and address emerging environmental and occupational health-related issues with the theme: 

“Environment and Health in a Changing World: Managing Current Disparities, Inequalities and Paradigms”. 

In a rapidly changing global environment the protection of future generations has become a major goal of national and international concern. Thus this conference is aimed at improving/ the understanding of how evidence-based scientific findings can be applied strategically to safeguard public health.

The conference will cover a wide range of major environmental and health-related concerns. Topics include, but are not limited to:
  • Eco-system Approach to Health.
  • Geo-health.
  • Sanitation, Hygiene and Water
  • Environment and Emerging Infection.
  • Environment and Herbal Medicine.
  • Climate Change, Extreme Events and Health Risks.
  • Industrial Environment and Health Hazards
  • Children: Environmental Exposure and Health
